Christmas Tree 2007

Holiday Revue '07

It's been a busy holiday season - can't believe it's already January, already 2008! But here we be, with just the slightest bit of whiplash, and no less indigestion from the various foods and other assorted eating fests over the last several weeks. Here's some of what I've been up to.

Our holiday story begins once again with Thanksgiving. As is becoming tradition, turkey is served from my kitchen for friends, family, and other acquaintances who no other plans. This year's spread was entirely from scratch. There was turkey, of course, and this year it was more of a classic recipe rather than brining (since last year's brine ended up all over the floor). It was stuffed, however, with a home made herb and apple stuffing - no boxes for us this year!

Add in parmesan mashed potatoes, baked acorn squash with honey mustard sauce, asparagus and parmesan-egg crumb topping, all topped off with a cranberry and apple fruit conserve (scratch!). I also made a really tasty pumpkin banana mousse tart - but by the time it was served it had gone a little mushy. Tasty, but needed to be served faster. Recipes available, if anyone wants them.

The next day it was time to decorate for Christmas! Out to Jersey to pick all the stuff, and soon after the tree (shown above) was put up for its last year (next year it will be replaced with a bigger, better, more real fake tree). I also tried a fun little trick with spray-on-snow. I started by reverting to Kindergarten and cutting out my own snow flakes. Then I taped them to the window, sprayed the fake snow around them, and removed the paper. The result was a pretty cool looking negative of a snow flake (see the photo to the right).

Come the week before Christmas and Mom and Jacquie came out to New York for Christmas. I made a quick and simple Christmas dinner consisting of a crescant roll dough-wrapped ham, a celery horseradish mashed potato dish, a strawberry pecan spinach salad, green beans and what was left of that tasty cranberry sauce from Thanksgiving. It was great to have Mom and Jacquie here for an evening. Christmas itself was a casual affair. Waffle breakfast and presents, followed by various friends coming in and out that evening.

Finally came New Years, where Jenn came over for a simple New Years evening, and here we are in 2008!

Looking Ahead...

What's in store for 2008? Not entirely sure. I'm seeing Wicked again February. Probably a couple other plays as well, every now and again. My best friend Caren is getting married in June! Soon after there might be a vacation to Mackinac Island. At some point I'd like to get back to Maine, too.

Resolutions?

I have no real resolutions this year. Not that I ever really have, but I definitely don't this year. There are things I want to do, like start investing properly, maybe learn a language or a new instrument, but other than wide-ranging possibilities, no specific plans or goals have been set thus far.

"What'd Ya Get For Christmas?"

A nice piece of art, headphones for my iPhone, nice pans for the kitchen, a cool new George Foreman, a new wallet, a great new briefcase, a TARDIS, Dr Who Seasons 2 & 3, a Star Trek movie (just one left to get!), a Star Trek ornament, nice new wine glasses and other nicnacks, paddywhacks, and partridges in pear trees.
