Vacation to Maine!
August 2007
Well for the first time in over a year and a half, I got to take a real vacation. You know, the kind where you're not on call, where you don't give a damn about what's going on anywhere else in the world, and where, if you're lucky, it's really, really hard to get a hold of you. And wow, is Maine the right place for that—Blackberries don't work, national cellphones are spotty, and the Internet requires a metal hanger and a tinfoil hat to receive any kind of signal.
I chose Maine because I remember going up there as a kid for the annual Lobster Festival, and this year was the 60th annual event. So Zach came with and off we drove up north into the land of blue water and no connectivity. The Lobster Festival itself wasn't much of anything - and we pretty much just went on the free day.
The rest of Maine, however, is fantastic. Cottage industries abound, small town feel, and great food. We went out on the seas on a Lobster Fishing tour where this old fisherman talked about everything to do with lobster fishing, from how the trap works to how lobsters work. Another day was spent up in Acadia National Park.
Probably one of the best parts of the trip was actually the place we stayed - the Youngtown Inn in Lincolnville. Owned by a French Chef and his wife originally from New York, the little six room B&B is a cozy restored farm house with a French restaurant on the main floor. And the food is to die for - best you've ever had. I want to head back in the offseason to use the fire places.
Pictures of the trip are available at Flickr.

New Jeof Sites Have Actual Purposes
So you can probably see JEOFnet has been redesign for the first time in a while. This time around, I'm trying to split out the various ways to get information about me and what I'm up to. For those who just want the basic news (and really, who don't want to read all the craziness of my blog), there's the new JEOFnet.
Built like a newspaper, I'll be updating this site only every so often with the major news. If you have a blog reader, you can add the JEOFnet RSS feed here to let you know when I update the site. For those who don't mind a little more creativity/ honesty/ opinion/reality, there's the new blog located at jeof.name.
And for those who need the business side of me - whether its for my resume, consulting, or various articles and writings - there's JeofOyster.com. Check them out, bookmark them all, and feel free to feedback!
